Analysis of trailers...

Paranormal Activity

Rated 15 this horror film is a low budget film where a couple move into a suburban home but are disturbed with a demonic presence in the house. Due to technology increasing films now have increasing supernatural killing whereas in the past the use of props was dominant. The conventions used are an unseen threat which is revealed or understood until the end. The film has no new equilibrium and the twist is the girl in the end was the demonic being all along. So sometimes the protagonist can have a hidden agenda which isn't revealed until the end so there is a twist.Props used to create suspense such as doors slamming mysteriously and things breaking unexpectedly. The most common type of suspense horror films use is when there is a jump cut to something unexpected so your attention is forced to focus on a certain thing.

The trailer uses text which zooms in to foreshadow the events.Music used is parallel and sound effects used are sudden to emphasise the shots and what taking place. The mise en scene is usually dark and for this film to be unique and successful the director Oren Peli has used night-vision and is recording the film from the couples point of view which has never been done before so that the audience can experience things at the same time.Due to Paranormal Activity being watched in 3D its even more realistic for the audience when things go flying its coming at the audience and therefore its a more enjoyable experience.

My Bloody Valentine

This horror film rated 18, directed by Patrick Lussieris is about protagonist Tom who returns to his hometown on the tenth anniversary of the Valentine's night massacre that claimed the lives of 22 people. Instead of a homecoming, however, Tom finds himself suspected of committing the murders, and it seems like his old flame is the only one will believes he's innocent. The trailer uses a lot of jump cuts and fades to black with sound effects of sudden actions and heavy breathing.Flashes quite fast paced shots put together with a voice over. The heartbeat sound effect makes us identify with the victims and shows the fear.

The masked killer is a typical convention which is reinforced to hide the identity of antagonist. The props used for him is a mask a black outfit and an axe as the murder weapon. The lighting used is generally low key lighting. The mise en scene has people with blood on them set in dark places outside as well as indoors. There not much music only sound effect which convey the distress of the characters. This film is the kind where you are made to believe something and at the end there is an unexpected twist and they way it end suggests there could be a sequel as there is no new equilibrium.
